Alice,

I will call you cousin for I have Onate ancestry also. My Onate heritage dates back to the colonization of Zacatecas and Oaxaca of New Mexico.

You found the marriage of Agustina Santelices and Luis Onate. That is a good begining. I am willing to help you research the Onates. So far I have been lucky in my own research. I am kind of curious if you go back to Juan or Cristobal Onate as I do. I will need the date of Agustina and Luis' marriage and the place and the church. I also need to know where and when the other children of the marriage were born. Did you read the documents in their entriety?

John, I know exactly how you feel. I've recently started my genealogy research and hit nothing but brick walls! For whatever reason--political or family squabbles, it appears my mother: an intelligent, professional woman from a once prominent family (Onate), was misinformed as to where she was born! I thought I had hit the jackpot when I received the FHC microfilm for Villa Garcia, Zac. for the years before and after her birth, and she's not there! Neither are her two brothers. I've checked the town's 1930's census--no Onate's whatsoever. This family, like many others, lost their fortunes and family records, if any, in the revolution. Now I've ordered an Aguascalientes El Sagrario (the church where my ggrandfather is entombed) microfilm that covers 300 years. I wonder how long it's going to take to get through that one, working only a couple hours a week (the evening operating hours of my FHC)? I haven't contributed much to the site, not for lack of effort, but lack o

I'm confused by all this that has been posted with reference to not knowing
or not having the time... I have found that all one needs to do is post a
message requesting help... and the flood gates open up, sending helpers

I wonder if anyone can help me with a place name in Aguascalientes.

I have a baptism record here for my husband's ggggg-grandfather, baptized in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes in 1748, but he was born in a place that looks like "Marinique". I don't find that place in the Diccionario Geografico, but when I Googled it, I came up with a "Marinique Resort" in Aguascalientes. However, when I entered the website, I couldn't find it listed. (It is a travel website).

Joseph, The film I searched was Villa Garcia Vault Intl Film 2053580 which includes nacimentos 1914-1917, and didn't find any Onates in those years. Yes, she had two brothers, but no Onates or Santelices (in case the mother's maiden name was used)showed on that film. We don't know her brother's names; upon my grandparents separation, the oldest son was taken to live with the Onates, and the other died a young man. There are also no Onates in the 1930 census for Villa Garcia, et al. Thanks for your suggestions. ABB

Hi, Joseph,

Most of us don't have a clue as to what it takes to be a moderator. If you are overwhelmed by the work, we don't blame you for wanting to cut down on the work, and you have to do what you have to do.

I need some help. I have a position open for a Moderator Assistant. The
job entails about 1-4 hours of work a month. Actually once you get the
idea (easy) you should definitely be pushing the window toward the 1

Hi,

After reading you "Right now the group is hovering around 160 member" in order to save you time I decide to have you remove me now. I am alway busy on the road going to different archives and genealogical groups that I can understand your situation.
